Authenticated preloved Chanel jewellery — CC earrings, pearl necklaces, Camellia chains and pieces that wear as either a belt or a long necklace. Jewellery is the easiest category to buy preloved with confidence: nothing to size, nothing to fit, and the piece is the same object it was the day it left the boutique.
Reading the marks
Chanel costume jewellery carries a stamped cartouche — an oval or round plaque reading CHANEL with the registered trademark symbol and MADE IN FRANCE. From the mid-1980s onward, most pieces also carry a season code: two digits for the year and a letter for the season. P is printemps (spring), A is automne (autumn), C is cruise. A piece marked 22 P is from the spring 2022 collection. Earlier and licensed pieces are marked differently or not at all, which is why we authenticate rather than read a stamp and call it done.
What actually degrades
On costume and plated pieces it is the plating and the hardware, not the design — so tarnish, wear at the clasp or clip, and any loss of finish are what we inspect and photograph. On fine jewellery we verify hallmarks and any accompanying certificate. If a piece has minor tarnish we say so and price it accordingly.
