A gold hoop or a pearl necklace is the same object it was the day it left the boutique — the only real variable is condition of the plating and the clasp, and we photograph both.
What we check
On fine jewellery we verify hallmarks and any accompanying certificate. On costume and plated pieces the things that actually degrade are the plating and the hardware, so that is what we inspect and photograph — tarnish, wear at the clasp, any loss of finish. If a piece has minor tarnish, we say so and price accordingly.
